The upcoming September 13, 2026, regional election in Skåne will determine the balance of power in the regional council and subsequent coalition negotiations over the board chair position. Current incumbent Carl Johan Sonesson (Moderates) faces competition from Social Democrats including Henrik Fritzon, alongside other listed contenders, as parties finalize candidate slates and platforms focused on healthcare access, infrastructure, and regional cooperation. National polling trends remain fluid with modest shifts among major blocs, keeping local seat projections competitive and leaving room for post-election bargaining that could elevate several figures. This tight trader consensus reflects uncertainty over both electoral arithmetic and the final selection process among viable candidates.
