Recent strength in U.S. manufacturing, highlighted by the July ISM Manufacturing PMI rising to 55.6—the highest since May 2022—anchors trader expectations for the August reading near 55. Broad-based gains in new orders (56.7), production (58.5), and employment (52.8, first expansion in 33 months) reflect sustained demand, AI-driven investment, and front-loading ahead of tariffs and supply risks tied to geopolitical tensions. Low inventories and resilient overall economic expansion support continuity, though easing price pressures and ongoing supplier delivery slowdowns introduce some moderation risk ahead of the September 1 release. Market-implied odds cluster around the 54–56 range, consistent with this momentum amid typical month-to-month volatility in the diffusion index.
