Gerwyn Price enters the New Zealand Darts Masters first-round matchup against Mark Cleaver as the clear favorite, consistent with his position as the No. 4 player on the PDC Order of Merit. Price, the 2022 event winner and former world champion, brings elite recent form highlighted by his April 2026 European Darts Grand Prix title and consistent high-level results across ProTour and international events. Cleaver, a New Zealand-based player ranked outside the top 80 in relevant systems with career averages around 83, typically competes at domestic and WDF levels. In best-of-11 legs format, Price’s superior checkout finishing, higher scoring pace, and extensive experience against qualifiers create a substantial edge, though Cleaver could benefit from home-soil familiarity in the opening leg or two. No injury concerns affect either player ahead of the August 14 contest.
