Recent July 2026 CPI data, released August 12 at 3.4% year-over-year after a 3.5% June print, anchors trader positioning for the August reading due September 11. Cleveland Fed nowcasts place August headline CPI at 3.36%, reflecting continued moderation in energy and shelter components alongside a 0.1% monthly gain. With 3.3% and 3.4% outcomes commanding nearly equal market-implied odds near 37%, the tight contest highlights uncertainty over whether sticky core pressures and tariff pass-through will offset recent disinflation momentum. Key swing factors include upcoming labor-market releases and any shifts in gasoline or housing costs before the BLS print.
