Multiple top programs enter the 2026 season with comparable defensive strengths, keeping implied probabilities tightly clustered. Oklahoma benefits from Brent Venables’ front-seven continuity and physicality, while Notre Dame, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, and Ohio State return key linemen, linebackers, and secondary pieces that limited scoring and yardage in recent campaigns. Miami, Texas Tech, Indiana, and Alabama add depth through experienced coordinators and roster retention. Preseason power ratings and expert rankings reflect this balance, with no team holding a clear edge in talent or scheme after significant NFL departures across the board. The wisdom of crowds prices the race as highly competitive, where minor shifts in injuries, transfers, or early results could quickly reorder the leaderboard.
