On August 5, 2026, Portugal's LIVRE party urged removal of Morocco over the Ceuta migration crisis and human rights concerns, while Spain's Sumar party filed a motion to reevaluate the joint bid. These calls follow earlier host-city withdrawals in Spain due to renovation costs and logistical challenges. FIFA's selection process, ongoing expansion debates to 64 teams, and domestic protests in Morocco over infrastructure spending create uncertainty around the tri-nation setup and any potential host changes before the centenary tournament.
