Pablo Carreño Busta enters the first-round matchup at the 2026 ATP National Bank Open in Montreal with stronger recent hard-court form, securing five wins in his last six matches on the surface after a solid European swing that included a fourth-round run at the French Open. The veteran Spaniard also holds prior success at the Canadian Open and brings extensive Masters 1000 experience to the hard courts. Valentin Royer, by contrast, has managed just one hard-court victory in his previous six outings, limiting his momentum heading into the encounter. Both players face typical early-tournament variables such as adaptation to conditions at IGA Stadium and potential schedule adjustments, though no major injury updates have altered preparations.
